Here we GOOOOO!

Tomorrow my Band and groupies (Eric, my brother, and Andrew) embark on an epic journey to Bushnell, Illinois.

Yeah…you haven’t heard of it? Oh. Join the club.

Still, what better place to have a Screamo/Hardcore festival than the western edge of the great state where Abraham Lincoln was born and the home land of our new President? What better place? I ask you.

And what better festival to have an emerging folk group come and play.  No wonder we’re going on at 2:00 in the afternoon.  The night shows are reserved for the real hard stuff. The later the hour, the harder the core.  If you know what I mean.

Tomorrow we set out on a 12 hour trek to the middle of nowhere (no offense).

Tomorrow we go to a land where the men spend more time on their hair than the women, where the pants are tight and the smell of parentless teenagers drifts by and tickles your nose.

I think this kid had to use a blow dryer to get them that tight.

I think this kid had to use a blow dryer to get them that tight.

Tomorrow we venture into the world of rest stops and then porta pots…so many porta pots…only to return to normal society with a new appreciation for toilets that flush.

Where is John? I think he left his pot in the middle of the road.

Where is John? I think he left his pot in the middle of the road.

And yet here in the most unlikely place a band is born – many bands are born.  Here friendships are made despite sweat and dirt and fatigue.  Here is Cornerstone – started by Jesus freaks who had babies to carry on the tradition for over 25 years. Here is victory. Here is true brotherhood.

The group from last year - beautiful brotherhood.

The group from last year - beautiful brotherhood.

So I ask you this week, as we take our trip into deep farm country that you find your tightest pants and flat iron your hair, that you don’t shower for a at least one day, or that you take out that dark eye liner and put on your best Screamo record and head bang along with us. I invite you, blog readers, to rock…or pray for us…heck! What about both?

In other news: Who loves Combos? Am I the only person who loves them?

  1. So sad to not be going this year. SO EXCITED that you are going back by invitation after winning a spot on the New Band Showcase last year. So…very…happy!!!! A friend of ours is going to try to tape the round table for us.

At YL camp, we are around hundreds of parentless teenagers…. No hard core music, though. Except in our room!

Much love to you, Andrew, and the whole band!

  2. Val! I hope everything goes well! We’ll be praying for you guys and your traveling. Get that baby a C-stone onesie or something.

  3. Wish I was going back this year. It’s such fun, even if I don’t like most of the bands.
There is no better festival. Anywhere.
    Enjoy!!!
